ARTISTIC TEAM
This is the team responsible for designing the creative identity of each edition, choosing themes, curatorial choices, and formats that reflect the diversity and experimental spirit of improvisation. We select the guest artists, develop the program of shows, workshops, and jam sessions, and we ensure that all experiences — on and off stage — promote connection, discovery, and inclusion.

Founder/Artistic Director
André Sobral
André Sobral is a Portuguese improviser, a member of ImprovFX and co-founder and artistic director of the Irreverente Festival, which brings the national community closer to international artists through performances, workshops and meetings. He is part of the European Ohana network, collaborating on residencies and exchanges. He began improvising in 2007 in Sweden, and since then has explored various physical and theatrical languages. He advocates improvisation as a space for acceptance and sharing, creating bridges between different audiences to promote collective creation.
Artistic Direction
Lena Breuer
Lena studied acting and journalism and fell in love with improvisation more than 15 years ago. Today she teaches and performs in Germany and around the world. She is the founder and artistic director of Impro Köln , one of Germany's largest professional improv theatre companies, and co-founder and co-director of IFO Impro Fest Bielefeld , one of Germany's largest international improv festivals. Since 2025 she has been co-artistic director of the Irreverent festival. She loves custard tarts and also enjoys mispronouncing them.
Artistic Direction
Mário Abel
Mário Abel studied acting for theatre. After a friend introduced him to improvisation, Mário couldn't stop thinking about anything else – nothing was as complete as the art of improvisation, and nothing was as difficult to master. Today, Mário gives training courses around the world applying the tools of improvisation. He teaches theatre and improvisation at ArteViva and Penicheiros, in Barreiro. He is also the founder of Plataforma IMPROV. For him, improvisation is a world of comfort and discomfort simultaneously – it's a place where he feels he grows with others.
PRODUCTION TEAM
The Irreverente Festival Production Team is responsible for transforming the artistic vision into reality. They coordinate all logistical aspects—from managing spaces, schedules, and technical resources to welcoming artists, volunteers, and the public. They are also responsible for communication, ticketing, partnerships, and the smooth running of every moment of the festival. With organization, flexibility, and a collaborative spirit, the production team ensures that everything happens smoothly, safely, and joyfully, sustaining the vibrant energy that defines Irreverent.
